I am Head of Operations in International Relations at the Institut d’Optique Graduate School. IOGS is a teaching, fundamental research, and innovation hub focused both on the study of photonics and its application in enterprise. I also write philosophy. My interests in philosophy are: Value Theory (Aesthetics & Ethics), Philosophy of Perception/Mind Environmental Philosophy, Moral & Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Technology. My CV is available here; a list of publications is available here; and a list of presentations here.
In June 2024, I will be giving two papers, one at The Faces of Gaia. Climatic Regimes, Social Orders, and Senses of Ecology, Università di Bologna, Italy. The second will take place at Aesthetics, Ethics and Relational Being, University of Iceland, the Nordic Society of Aesthetics, Reykjavik, Iceland.
Until recently, I have taught beginners to advanced English courses, including some philosophy, in addition to a humanities course that investigates philosophical approaches to environment, titled Environmental Philosophy.
I have also worked, on a contractual basis, with the Institut Jean Nicod, Institut Paul Bocuse, and L'Oréal R&D as a researcher on the cognitive foundations of the experience of beauty. A summary version of this work, titled "Cosmetics and Beauty in the Everyday", will be presented at the Appamat/IS&T International Workshop on Material Appearance at Sorbonne Université in November, 2023.
Previously, I worked with Emily Brady, Susanne M. and Merlbern G. Glasscock Director and Chair, and Professor of Philosophy, Texas A&M University. We collaborated on a project, Aesthetics, Environmental Justice, and Ecological Justice, which examined key questions and issues at the intersection of aesthetics and philosophies of justice as they relate to environmental issues and the more-than-human world. Our paper "Environmental Virtue Aesthetics" has recently been published in the British Journal of Aesthetics. A list of publications is available here.
In October 2022, I gave a paper on "Virtue Appreciation & Sustainability" at the Toward a Sustainable Attitude: Aesthetics, the Arts, and the Environment conference, organized by the Ca' Foscari University of Venice Centre for Digital and Public Humanities. This paper will appear in a forthcoming special edition of Contemporary Aesthetics.
In September 2021, I presented, along with co-author Emily Brady, our paper titled "Aesthetic Value, Ethical Value and Environment" at the Royal Institute of Philosophy event Values and Virtues in a Changing World.
In November 2020, I gave a talk, "On the Cusp of the Sublime: environmental and artistic sublimity", at the SublimAE Seminar, a seminar on the sublime and aesthetic experience, organized by M. Arcangeli and J. Dokic, Institut Jean Nicod, École Normale Supérieure, Paris.
I have extensive teaching and lecturing experience. In addition to teaching philosophy and social science, and specialist English at all levels, I have taught English for Social Work and Immigration (Lingua Nomad), Communications and Business (Grenoble Ecole de Management, ESLSCA, EDC) and numerous intensive online and classroom-based classes on Digital Transformation and Leadership and Human Resources (ESLSCA, EDC).
In January 2022, I taught an intensive online course on Digital Transformation at ESLSCA Egypt. In September 2021, I started teaching various ongoing Communications courses on digital bachelors and engineering courses (business English, how to pitch, crisis management, negotiations, etc.) at the Grenoble École de Management. I have also been teaching Anglo-American Moral and Political Philosophy, the Philosophy of Perception, and Scientific English at the Institut d'Optique Graduate School. Also, I have taught at EDC Business School, including the supervision of MA students.
On December 15th 2020, I was guest lecturer for J. Dokic's seminar “L'expérience-limite 2.: le soi et l'environnement”, at the Institut Jean Nicod, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. My lecture was on “Aesthetic Value, Ethical Value and Environment”.
I previously taught Anglo-American Moral Philosophy at CentraleSupélec, one of France’s most distinguished engineering schools, a one-off postgraduate research seminar on Aesthetics and Cognitive Science at Institut Jean Nicod (École Normale Supérieure), and lectured L’esthétique et la théorie de l’art at Université Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint Denis.
My consulting services, The Archée Group, offer a fusion of thought leadership development informed by my philosophical background and thinking. Now more than ever, the rigors of philosophy can offer sustainable possibilities and solutions to business practice and management that are focused on contextual, social and environmental context. My availability is limited to one project at a time, but if you get in touch in good time, we can work together to come up with solutions:
